register_* call adds the asset name to the metadata if it is not already declared. If the project has not been deployed yet, the call has no effect on metadata because no flowproject record exists. To remove an asset from both stores, see Asset deletion.
Methods
- .register_data: Register a flow artifact as a data asset instance.
- .register_external_data: Register an external data reference, such as an S3 path, as a data asset.
- .register_model: Register a flow artifact as a model asset instance.
- .register_external_model: Register an external model reference, such as a checkpoint or Hugging Face model, as a model asset.
Choosing a registration method
Use the artifact-based methods (register_data, register_model) when the asset lives in the flow as a Metaflow artifact; the platform resolves the reference automatically. Use the external methods (register_external_data, register_external_model) when the asset lives outside the flow, such as files in object storage or a hosted model, and you want the asset entry to point at that location.
