As a society, we have turned to data science, machine learning (ML), and artificial intelligence (AI) to help us solve diverse problems, build better businesses, and contend with the effects of a global pandemic—but these solutions are not flawless. As data science tools and approaches become more popular and we solve increasingly complicated tasks using automation and algorithms, we face new and unique technological challenges surrounding security, talent, ethics, and more.
Against this backdrop of innovation and its accompanying challenges, Anaconda conducts an annual survey to better understand the role and impact of data science across industries. The survey helps us gather demographic information about the data science, ML, and AI community, ascertain how that community works, and collect insights into big questions and trends that are top of mind within the community. This year, we’re inviting you to join us as we study the survey data around pervasive and actionable issues like open-source security, the talent shortage, and ethics and bias. Meet the Speakers
Peter Wang is the CEO and co-founder of Anaconda, Inc. Prior to founding Anaconda (formerly Continuum Analytics), Peter spent 15 years in software design and development across a broad range of areas, including 3D graphics, geophysics, large data simulation and visualization, financial risk modeling, and medical imaging. As a creator of the PyData community and conferences, he devotes time and energy to growing the Python data science community and advocating for increasing data literacy around the world. Peter holds a BA in Physics from Cornell University.
Angela Bassa is a data science and analytics expert and builder of high-performing teams. She is a renowned keynote speaker and author, with credits including the Wall Street Journal and Harvard Business Review. An MIT-trained and award-winning mathematician, Angela has extensive experience across industries—spanning finance, life sciences, agriculture, energy, digital marketing, software, and robotics.
