As part of Anaconda’s deep and ongoing commitment to our communities, Anaconda is proudly committed to supporting Eligible Non-Profit and Research Organizations in their mission by providing discounted access to the Anaconda Platform. This Academic Policy (this “Policy”) outlines eligibility criteria, benefits, discounting eligibility, and how to sign up for Anaconda’s Academic Program.
Anaconda, Inc. (“Anaconda“) recognizes the vital role academic institutions play in developing the next generation of open-source developers and code-environment thought leaders. To support this mission, Anaconda is proud to provide individuals who are using Anaconda’s Platform and Offerings on behalf of or in association with an Eligible Academic Institution with free access to the Anaconda Platform through registration and participation in the Anaconda for Education Program (the “Program”).This Academic Policy (this “Policy“) sets forth the eligibility criteria, benefits, application process, and terms governing participation in the Program.
1. Definitions
Capitalized terms used but not defined in this Policy have the meanings given to them in Anaconda’s Terms of Service.
2. Eligibility Criteria
2.1 Eligible Academic Institutions
To qualify for the Program, the organization you are using the Anaconda Platform or Offerings on behalf of must meet the following criteria to be designated as an Eligible Academic Institution:
An “Eligible Academic Institution” means an organization that is accredited as a college, university, or other higher education institution by a recognized national, regional, or local agency, including but not limited to:
- The U.S. Department of Education (or any successor agency);
- The Council for Higher Education Accreditation;
- The Council of International Schools; or
- Other equivalent accreditation organizations.
2.2 Verification of Eligibility
Anaconda reserves the right to verify your organization’s eligibility for the Program. Upon request from Anaconda, participating Eligible Academic Institutions must provide:
- Proof of accreditation by a recognized national, regional, or local agency; OR
- A certification confirming the organization’s status as an Eligible Academic Institution; AND
- A brief description of the organization’s mission and intended use of Anaconda’s Platform and Offerings.
3. Program Benefits
3.1 Free Access to Starter Plan. Eligible Academic Institutions are entitled to free access to Anaconda’s Starter Plan upon registration for the Program. This benefit is provided even if the participating Eligible Academic Institution would not otherwise qualify for such free access under Anaconda’s Terms of Service.
3.2 Academic Program Scaled Usage Exemption. Program Users are exempt from the scaled enterprise deployment restrictions set forth in Section 5(e) of the Terms of Service and are permitted to employ such use cases, provided that such scaled enterprise deployment remains within the scope of non-commercial, educational use at the time of usage, as set forth in this Academic Policy.
3.3 Academic Program Distribution Exemption. Academic Program users are exempted from the distribution restrictions set forth in Section 5(d)(i) of the Terms of Service and are permitted to redistribute system outputs solely for academic purposes, provided that such redistribution remains within the scope of non-commercial, educational use at the time of usage, as defined in this Academic Policy.
4. Program Participation Process
4.1 For Individuals
If you are an individual associated with an Eligible Academic Institution and are accessing Anaconda from an educational domain, follow these steps:
- Sign the Anaconda Academic End User License Agreement (available here).
- Upon signing, you will be redirected to sign up for an account on the Anaconda for Education page using your academic email address (available here).
- A confirmation link will be sent to your provided email address.
- Upon successful verification, you will receive notification of your academic subscription status.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to activate your subscription.
4.2 For Institutions
If you represent an institution that qualifies as an Eligible Academic Institution and are interested in securing an institution-wide agreement for use of Anaconda:
- Reach out to our Support Team and submit a ticket. Note in your submission that you want to complete the Eligible Academic Institution Agreement with Anaconda.
- Upon approval, you will receive instructions to complete the Eligible Academic Institution Agreement.
- Follow the provided instructions from our Support Team.
4.3 Previously Purchased Subscriptions
Existing organizations or users that meet the eligibility requirements of Section 2 but have a current paid Subscription from Anaconda shall:
- Have further payment requirements waived for the remainder of their current Subscription; and
- Must contact Anaconda’s Support Team at support.anaconda.com to exercise this right
By participating in the Program, organizations shall not be entitled to any refunds for previously paid Subscription fees.
5. Program Term and Conditions
5.1 Conditions
All access to and use under the Program is strictly limited to non-commercial, educational purposes only. Any commercial use, including activities intended to generate revenue or profit, commercial research and development, business consulting, product development, marketing activities, services to external commercial entities, or creation of commercial intellectual property is expressly prohibited.
5.2 Program Term
Free access to the Program benefits is valid for twelve (12) months from:
- An individual signing the Academic End User License Agreement (EULA), or
- An organization signing the Eligible Academic Institution Agreement.
5.3 Maintaining Eligibility
Organizations must maintain their status as an Eligible Academic Institution throughout the Program Term. Any material change that may affect an organization’s eligibility must be reported to Anaconda within thirty (30) days of such change.
5.4 Renewal
Annual renewal under this Program requires:
- Verification of your organization’s continued status as an Eligible Academic Institution;
- Participating individuals must re-sign the Academic End User License Agreement;
- Participating organizations must re-sign the Academic Institution Agreement.
Anaconda will contact participants prior to the expiration of their Program Term with renewal instructions.
5.5 Termination
Failure to comply with any of the obligations outlined in this Policy may result in termination of participation in the Program. Misrepresentation of an organization’s status as an Eligible Academic Institution at any time during the Program Term will result in immediate program termination.
5.6 Modification
Anaconda reserves the right to modify the terms of this Academic Policy with ninety (90) days’ notice. Notices will be posted on Anaconda’s legal page. It is the responsibility of participating institutions and individuals to review the terms of this Policy periodically to confirm if any updates have been noted.
