The native integration brings Anaconda, the world’s most popular data science platform, to Snowflake Data Cloud users seeking enterprise-grade Python workflows.
AUSTIN, Texas–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Anaconda Inc., provider of the world’s most popular data science platform, today announced that Snowpark for Python, an Anaconda-embedded repository and package manager for secure and seamless access to open source in Snowflake’s Data Cloud, will enter the public preview stage at Snowflake Summit in Las Vegas this week.
Python’s rich ecosystem of open-source packages is one of the biggest enablers for data science. With Snowpark, Snowflake’s developer framework, Snowflake and Anaconda will allow data engineers, data scientists, and developers who prefer using Python as their programming language of choice to take advantage of Snowflake’s powerful platform capabilities and securely collaborate on a single platform.
“Over the past few years, Python has experienced explosive demand and growth as it’s become one of the most popular programming languages,” said Peter Wang, CEO and co-founder, Anaconda. “It’s an unstoppable adoption engine, so it’s exciting to put Python on a very exclusive list of business tools that you can use right inside of Snowflake’s Data Cloud. This is a game-changer for the data science community.”
The integration puts the power of Anaconda in the hands of Snowflake Data Cloud users, who already benefit from Snowflake’s elasticity and performance. Users can now run secure Python-based workflows without the need to copy or move data, and access the most popular open-source Python packages by using Anaconda in Snowflake—without any manual installs.
Additionally, users can expect accelerated Python-based workflows running inside Snowflake’s fast, secure processing engine with Anaconda’s seamless dependency management and securely-built packages. The integration will also enable users to build production data pipelines and data science workflows with Python libraries that have been created and curated by Anaconda to run in a highly-secured sandbox inside Snowflake.
“We wanted to bring enterprise-grade open-source innovation to the Snowflake Data Cloud as part of the Snowpark for Python offering,” said Torsten Grabs, Director of Product Management, Snowflake. “By embedding Anaconda’s repository and package manager into the Snowflake engine, data scientists and engineers can seamlessly mobilize the world’s data using the most popular open-source packages without needing to copy or move the data. We welcome the Python community to the Snowflake Data Cloud!”
Anaconda and Snowflake announced their partnership in September 2021 to provide the Python developer community with secure and scalable data pipelines and machine learning workflows with the latest open-source innovation. Private preview of Snowpark for Python was announced at Snowflake’s Snowday event in November 2021.
“We were very lucky to take part in the private preview,” says Jim Gradwell, Head of Data Engineering & Machine Learning at Hyper Group. “Moving our Python processes to Snowpark has removed unnecessary architecture complexity, simplified and accelerated our development, and reduced costs associated with data movement and running separate environments for SQL and Python.”
In addition to Snowpark’s public preview at Snowflake Summit, Wang will participate in the Data Science Product Keynote, and Michael Grant, Senior Vice President of Enterprise at Anaconda, will co-host a session on best practices for using Anaconda inside Snowflake.
